International Travel & Tourism Management BTEC HNC (part-time)

This exciting course offers an insight into the fast-paced world of travel and tourism. Providing a stimulating and challenging programme of study that will be both engaging and memorable, you will gain essential subject knowledge needed to progress successfully into further study (HND) or the world of work. The course is taught by industry experts who regularly update their knowledge in specialist fields.

Entry requirements

You must have:

  • A Level 3 qualification in Travel & Tourism, OR
  • An A-Level profile that demonstrates strong performance in a relevant subject or adequate performance in more than one GCE subject, OR
  • Other related Level 3 qualifications, OR
  • An Access to Higher Education Diploma awarded by an approved further education institution, OR
  • An international equivalent of the above, OR
  • Related work experience if you are aged 20 or over

Other requirements:

  • Good level of written and spoken English
  • Genuine interest in the travel and tourism industry
  • A successful interview
  • English to GCSE grade C / Functional skill Level 2, OR
  • Common European Framework of Reference (CEFR) Level B2, OR
  • IELTS 5.5; Reading and Writing at 5.5

Course content

You will study the following units:

  • The Contemporary Travel and Tourism Industry
  • Managing the Customer Experience
  • Professional Identity and Practice
  • The Travel and Tourism Business Toolkit
  • Leadership and Management for Service Industries (Pearson-set)

Other units you may study:

  • Tour Operations Management
  • Global Tourist Destinations
  • Marketing Essentials for Travel & Tourism

Assessment methods

Assignments (including timed assessment), presentations, discussions, academic posters, displays, leaflets, recordings of interviews/role plays, working logbooks, reflective journals and work-based projects.

Qualifications

Pearson BTEC Level 4 Higher National Certificate in International Travel and Tourism Management

Further study and career options

On successful completion of the HNC you can progress on to further study with our HND or choose to enter employment.

You can also top-up to a BA (Hons) at various universities in courses such as:

Additional information

There is an opportunity for a Residential visit overseas as well as various other trips. Previous trips have included: Signature Flight Support, the World Travel Market, London, Woburn Safari and Abbey, Jordans Mill, Wrest Park, and destinations in Malta: Bugibba, St Juliens, San Anton Gardens and M’Dina.

There are additional costs of approximately £1,000 for trip fees. This will cover the Residential costs which are in consultation with students. Smaller day trips are a compulsory part of the programme.
