Introduction to the Role of the Teaching Assistant
This is an introductory training opportunity that will provide an overview to the role of a newly appointed teaching assistant, or for those that are looking to volunteer as a teaching assistant. Introductory training can make a major contribution to raising standards in schools by ensuring newly appointed support staff are confident and capable of carrying out their responsibilities at work within a reasonable period of appointment.
Entry requirements
No specific entry requirements, however a good level of understanding of maths and English essential.
Course content
Learners will be given an overview of the role of a teaching assistant, including:
- Every Child Matters
- Supporting in the classroom
- Support for teaching assistants
- Supporting behaviour
- Understanding how children learn
- How to support literacy and numeracy.
Assessment methods
This is a short 6 hour course over a 3 week period, with three short written assignment to cover knowledge.
Further study and career options
Levels 2 and 3 Award / Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools. Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support in Schools. We also recommend studying our 2 day paediatric first aid course.
