Clipping Horses: An Introduction

This course will introduce you to the knowledge and skills required for clipping horses. The course will begin by looking at the types of clip and their use, care of the clippers, and how to take apart and reassemble them. You will then progress on to learning about safety considerations and preparing the course, clippers and environment. The will also be opportunities to have a go at clipping on our well-mannered horses and practice skills learned under the supervision of our experienced, qualified staff.

Entry requirements

To begin this course it is essential that you have some experience of handling horses.

Course content

The course will focus on the procedures that need to be followed to ensure the safety of both the handler and the horse.

The areas of study will be:

  • Types of clip
  • Using the clippers
  • Preparation of horse and clipping procedure.

Further study and career options

On completion of this course you can apply for further part-time courses in horse care, such as Lungeing & Long Reining.

Additional information

To take part in this course you should wear suitable clothing, including stout yard boots or steel toe cap boots. You will also be required to bring your own riding hat and gloves.
