Mechanical Engineering BTEC HNC (part-time)
This course is designed for people who are already working in a technical role within the engineering industry and are looking to obtain a vocational qualification at a higher level to support their position or to progress within their organisation. If you are a trainee or an apprentice and have already completed your Level 3 then this nationally recognised qualification will equip you with the knowledge and understanding you need to develop your career in mechanical and manufacturing engineering at a higher level.
Entry requirements
You will need:
- 2 A-Levels at grade A*-C in Mathematics and Physics, OR
- BTEC Level 3 Diploma (120 credits) in Mechanical Engineering (at Merit or above), including Further Maths, OR
- An equivalent Level 3 qualification (120 credits) in a related engineering discipline (at Merit or above), including Further Maths.
If you do not meet fully the above criteria it may be possible to gain entry to the course subject to a successful interview where you will be considered individually on your relevant engineering / industrial experience and engineering knowledge rather than just your qualifications. At interview you will need to demonstrate a sound understanding of mathematics and mechanical engineering principles.

Assessment methods
Assessment is on a continuing basis and will include a range of assessment methods, such as: time-constrained tests, assignments, practical lab-work, research, presentations etc.
Additional information
During the course, you will be required to attend college for one day a week, for a period of two years. Additional study and reading will be required and expected outside of College.
