General Engineering BTEC HNC (part-time)

This course provides you with an excellent understanding of general engineering by incorporating units from both mechanical engineering and electrical and electronic engineering.

Entry requirements

You will need:

  • 2 A-Levels at C or above in Mathematics and Physics OR
  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Electrical & Electronic Engineering at Merit or above, including Further Maths, OR
  • BTEC Level 3 Diploma in Mechanical Engineering at Merit or above, including Further Maths, OR
  • Equivalent Level 3 qualification in a related subject.

We also welcome applications from mature students who will be considered individually on experience rather than qualifications.

Course content

During this course you will have the option to study a range of units including:

  • Analytical methods
  • Computer programming techniques
  • Electrical power
  • Engineering science
  • Fluid mechanics
  • Mechanical principles
  • Pneumatics and hydraulics
  • Programmable logic controllers.

Further study and career options

On successful completion of the HNC you can progress onto our HND with a year’s further study or choose to enter employment directly. On successful completion of the HND you will have the option to top up your qualification to a full Bachelor’s degree in an engineering related discipline at university or alternatively enter the industry.

Additional information

You will need to purchase standard study equipment (such as a scientific calculator). We recommend a Casio FX85 which costs around £10.
