The CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) will prepare you to become an Early Years Educator, by enabling you to work with children from birth to five years and gain knowledge of children aged five to seven years. Upon achievement of this qualification you should be able to enter the workforce as an Early Years Educator. CACHE have developed this qualification in response to the Department for Education and National College for Teaching and Leadership Policy, improving the quality and range of education and childcare from birth to five years.

Entry requirements

You will need to work in a real work environment for a minimum of 350 recommended placement hours and be able to demonstrate competency in both knowledge and skills in the areas of 0-11months, 11months to three years and three to five years. This may mean three different working environments.  You will also need to have a Level 2 qualification in Childcare.

Those wishing to take out the Advanced Learner Loan must have their English and Maths GCSE Grade A-C certificates prior to application. 

Course content

This course is based on themes:

  • Theme 1- Introducing the role of the early years practitioner
  • Theme 2 – Legislation, framework and professional practice
  • Theme 3 – Play, development and learning for school
  • Theme 4 – Professional development
  • Longitudinal Study

Assessment methods

Assessment methods will be co-ordinated to suit your individual needs. Methods range from written assignments, professional discussions and case studies, as well as oral questioning

Further study and career options

On completion, you can progress to the Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People's Services (England) (QCF) CACHE Level 5 Diploma or other higher level early years qualifications, such as our Children & Family Studies Foundation Degree, Early Years, Educational Practice or Disability Studies.

This course can be delivered using our E-learning resource, where you can have access to your assessor, resources, tutorials and reading materials. Please ask at enrolment to find out more. There is an additional cost of £20 for a textbook.

Funding information

This course is FREE if you’re aged 19-23 and studying your first full Level 3 qualification.

If you are aged 19 or over you may qualify for an Advanced Learner Loan to help you pay the tuition fees for this course.
